PE & Sport
Here at St Margaret Ward, we strive to give every child many positive and varied sporting experiences. Apart from the obvious health benefits, these activities develop self-confidence, as well as teaching children about valuable life skills such as determination, resilience and teamwork.
Activities within PE lessons, which are led by our specialist coaches, include:
- Games skills and team games
- Gymnastics, both floor and apparatus work
- Tag Rugby
In Year 6, children also get the opportunity to attend a three-day residential trip to an outdoor adventure centure in Wales. While there, the children take part in activities such as canoeing, climbing, and caving. They will also have a go on the zip wire and the big swing, as well as taking on the challenge of the infamous piranha pool. The whole trip is a never-to-be-forgotten experience. See www.robinwood.co.uk for more details.
Every year at school, we hold a Sports Day to give children an opportunity to take part in a range of activities where the emphasis is on having a go and enjoyment, with an element of competition.
We also run several sports clubs before and after school for boys and girls of all ages. See the latest timetable here.
Our sports teams compete regularly in competitions against other schools, with our girls' football team and our tag rugby team both returning back to school recently with trophies.
Outside of schoool, on Saturday mornings, Longford Park Football Club host training sessions at the school from 10.45am to 12.15pm, with any child of any ability welcome to attend.
During the Whit and Summer holidays, the children can also join in one of our fun-filled sports weeks.
